Field Hockey BC’s Train to Compete program supports over 100 high performance athletes in BC

From April 24 – 26, six regional field hockey teams of girls aged 16 -18 came together at UBC to compete in the 2015 Field Hockey Train to Compete Girls High Performance Championship.

The Regional Tournament marks the culmination of six months of training and development for more than 100 young high performance athletes through Field Hockey BC’s Train to Compete regional development program.

The three-day event was also a selection camp for two 2015 BC Provincial teams (featuring 37 athletes). The athletes also had the opportunity to play for National Team coaches who were watching for talent identification purposes.

“The Field Hockey BC Train to Compete Program represents the most significant bridging point for aspiring athletes to the Junior National Program,” says Mark Saunders, Executive Director of Field Hockey BC. “Many athletes have progressed through the BC player pathway from Learn to Train, to Train to Train, and into Train to Compete, some having been identified for National representation along the way and some with those honours to come. We are very proud of the achievements of all our BC athletes, with a select group now moving forward to compete for British Columbia at this summer’s National Championships.”

Field Hockey is a growing sport for girls and women in BC, with opportunities for all ages and skill levels. Visit the field hockey page on our website to learn more or contact Field Hockey BC directly to get involved in your community.
