Adam Woods, 20, of Coquitlam competes at a high level in orienteering while completing his third year of computer engineering at UBC. He is used to the challenge of balancing studies and sport; training is a welcome break from the textbooks.
Skating Coaches Karen and Jason Mongrain are nervous. It’s not because their students are competing at Sectionals next week or because of the demands their community and rink are facing this week at Skate Canada International in Kelowna, BC. As top-notch figure skating coaches with some 40 years of combined experience, this husband and wife coaching team is accustomed to that kind of stress.
BCBSA would like to welcome Rob Derman as the new Provincial Skeleton Coach for the BC Program. Derman will be filling the role previously held by Ivo Pakalns who has recently accepted a role as the National Team Coach with Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton.
On the evening of September 20, 2014 Triathlon BC hosted its Annual Athlete Gala. Held at the BC Sport’s Hall of Fame, the Gala celebrated the achievements and dedication of its members; current and past athletes, race directors, coaches, officials, clubs, volunteers and supporters - significant individuals who help weave the fabric of the triathlon community throughout the province.
Last weekend, I took a fun trip down on a shuttle bus organized by the Simon Fraser Student Society (SFSS) to Bothell, Washington for the inaugural Battle of the Border event between the SFU Clan and the Central Washington Wildcats.
This initiative was not just an opportunity to send down families, friends, and fans of the Clan to the event, but also allowed the SFSS to promote school spirit and garner more student supporters for the athletics community.
