The Local Sport Relief Fund has been developed to provide one-time financial relief for non-profit, community level sport organizations, clubs and associations at risk of collapse or insolvency due to the impacts of COVID-19. The fund is made possible through financial assistance of the Government of Canada, support from the Province of B.C. and administered through viaSport British Columbia.
Funded by the Province of B.C., Government of Canada, individual foundations and corporations, viaSport awards approximately $2 million dollars in sport-related grant programs each year. Our aim is to reduce barriers and ensure quality sport experiences by:
- Increasing participation and leadership opportunities for under-represented groups
- Developing grassroots sports in outlying and under-served areas in B.C.
- Supporting the continued education of training of certified coaches
- Encouraging regional, provincial, national and international sport event hosting across the province
- Assisting with travel costs for youth

The BCSPP supports programs that attract children, youth, Indigenous and under-represented populations to lead active and healthy lifestyles through involvement in sport while also helping to support communities delivering physical activity programming throughout the province.
To help maximize the impact on provincially targeted athletes and coaches, the High Performance Project Grant targets PSOs and DSOs that have not been selected for Enhanced Excellence funding but have specific high performance project needs. In 2021-2022, this grant will focus on initiatives that target athletes and coaches attending the 2022 Canada Summer Games.
