The Local Sport Relief Fund has been developed to provide one-time financial relief for non-profit, community level sport organizations, clubs and associations at risk of collapse or insolvency due to the impacts of COVID-19. The fund is made possible through financial assistance of the Government of Canada, support from the Province of B.C. and administered through viaSport British Columbia.
Grants
Funded by the Province of B.C., Government of Canada, individual foundations and corporations, viaSport awards approximately $2 million dollars in sport-related grant programs each year. Our aim is to reduce barriers and ensure quality sport experiences by:
- Increasing participation and leadership opportunities for under-represented groups
- Developing grassroots sports in outlying and under-served areas in B.C.
- Supporting the continued education of training of certified coaches
- Encouraging regional, provincial, national and international sport event hosting across the province
- Assisting with travel costs for youth

Team Up: Expanding access to sport through partnerships grant - closed
Team Up is a sport participation grant program supported by the Province of B.C. and administered through viaSport British Columbia. Through an application-based grant, Team Up aims to facilitate sustainable, mutually-beneficial partnerships between non-profit sport and social sector organizations that utilizes their collective expertise to create and incorporate mechanisms to reduce barriers to quality sport opportunities
Bob Bearpark Coaching Bursary Awards
The Bearpark Foundation was established in 1997 to support coaching education in British Columbia as an ongoing memorial legacy to Bob Bearpark.
High Performance Project Grant
To help maximize the impact on provincially targeted athletes and coaches, the High Performance Project Grant targets PSOs and DSOs that have not been selected for Enhanced Excellence funding but have specific high performance project needs. In 2022-2023, this grant will focus on initiatives that target athletes and coaches attending the 2023 Canada Winter Games.
Indigenous Youth Sport Legacy Fund
The Indigenous Youth Sport Legacy Fund assists amateur athletes of Indigenous ancestry, including athletes with a disability or disabilities, in their pursuit of excellence in sport. The grant seeks to relieve financial costs associated with high performance sport.
