Coach Developers
Coach Developer is the umbrella term used to capture the roles in the NCCP that are directly responsible for the development of coaches. These include: Learning Facilitators (LFs), Coach Evaluators (CEs) and Master Coach Developers (MCD).
Effective January 1, 2015, a policy was implemented by the Coaching Association of Canada around the Coach Developer pathway. All Coach Developers will now follow the pathway below:
Multi-Sport: viaSport is the provincial/territorial coaching representative for BC, and is responsible for all multi-sport Coach Developers, which include Learning Facilitators and Master Coach Developers. viaSport is also delivery agent of the NCCP Core Trainings, which are required for all NCCP Coach Developers.
Sport-Specific: PSOs are responsible for their respective sport-specific Coach Developers, typically including Learning Facilitators and Coach Evaluators, but may also include Master Coach Developers. If a PSO would like assistance in Coach Developer initiatives such as selection, training, co-delivery, mentorship, evaluation or ongoing support, please contact coaches@viasport.ca. viaSport will cover the cost of sport-sepcific Coach Developer evaluations through the Master Coach Developer Program . PSOs can apply to use the MCD Exchange using the MCD Exchange MCD Exchange Application.
CORE TRAININGS
All Core Trainings are hosted through, or in partnership with, viaSport. It is strongly recommended that Coach Developers attend multi-sport (viaSport hosted) Core Trainings, to have the opportunity to learn from Coach Developers from other sports. Alternatively, PSOs/NSOs may request to host a Core Training, and take on all hosting responsibilities. This most frequently occurs when a NSO or PSO is hosting sport-specific content-training, and would like their Coach Developer Candidates to complete Core Training during the same time period.
Upcoming Trainings
Module | Date | Location | Registration |

Visit NCCP Coaching Calendar for most up to date information |
*Please note, registration for viaSport hosted Core Training is completed through the Locker. If a PSO intends on paying for three or more coaches to take a Core Training course, please email coaches@viasport.ca for more information on how to process payment.
Go to the National Core Training Calendar to see a listing of where these courses are being offered throughout Canada. Core Trainings hosted by viaSport are typically offered in BC each Spring and Fall (MCD usually just in the fall, unless demand is higher). PSOs will sometimes host Core Trainings and open them to other Coach Developers. When this occurs, course info will be posted here, however registration will occur directly with that respective PSO.
Refund Policy for NCCP In-person Workshops:
If notice is given three or more business days prior to the start of the workshop, the participant can choose to either:
- receive credit to attend the same NCCP workshop hosted by viaSport
- receive a refund less a $20.00 administration fee
MULTI-SPORT LEARNING FACILITATOR SELECTION
When there is a provincial need for additional LFs for specific multi-sport modules, viaSport will open applications for a specific period of time. Applications will be reviewed by viaSport and a selection committee of MCDs. LFs will be selected based on: context relevant coaching experience, NCCP experience and qualifications, academic achievements, geographical locations and availability, and coaching philosophies. General and minimum selection criteria are listed within this document. For more information about the process of becoming a multi-sport LF, click here. Subscribe to the viaSport bi-weekly newsletter to learn about these opportunities as they arise.
Master Coach Developers are typically individually selected and trained based on module and task (eg. LF evaluations), on an as-needed basis, in collaboration with the Coaching Association of Canada.
MULTI-SPORT LEARNING FACILITATOR CONTENT-SPECIFIC TRAINING
viaSport is responsible for scheduling and organizing all multi-sport LF trainings in BC. Once selected as a multi-sport LF, the LF Candidate will be invited to content-training. The costs of trainings depend on the expenses, and will be communicated to LF Candidates upon invitation.
MULTI-SPORT LEARNING FACILITATOR CO-DELIVERY
Each multi-sport LF and MCD will be responsible for completing at least one co-delivery before performing tasks independently.LFs will be responsible for determining their own co-facilitation, though the arrangement must be approved by viaSport. LFs are not paid for co-deliveries, as it is considered a part of the learning pathway.
MULTI-SPORT LEARNING FACILITATOR EVALUATION
viaSport recommends LFs are evaluated within two years of beginning in the respective role. For information about how Coach Developers become certified in their roles, click here. Please contact coaches@viasport.ca for more information.
