L.E.A.D. is a part-time interactive, experiential program for B.C. Sport Leaders that will run from March to July 2020. It is focused on developing and deepening skills, attributes and mindset to lead with courage and vulnerability in an ever changing landscape. Through this unique program leaders will learn new communication and leadership skills with the opportunity to practice those skills in a supportive environment.


This program is part of viaSport’s commitment to support sport leaders to enhance their individual and organizational strengths. The program will be offered for FREE thanks to funding from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture. 


This program is for experienced and emerging leaders who have an interest in:

  • Personal growth and development
  • Becoming more mindful of personal capabilities to make a difference in sport
  • Building connections and learning with and from like-minded sport leaders

Up to 30 people will be selected to participate with consideration for the diversity of the group (gender, experience, background).


Learning outcomes

  • Understand your values, conflict style and personal experiences that contribute to your leadership style
  • Refine conversation skills, including giving and receiving feedback
  • Deepen connections through listening and curiosity
  • Strengthen ability to move through conflict in a healthy way


Program structure

This four month program includes:

  • Values Inventory Online Assessment
  • Conflict Dynamics Profile Assessment
  • Two Day In person Workshop: March 2-3, 2020
    • Interactive, experiential learning format
    • Topics include: values, conflict dynamics, coach approach, communication tools and practicing courageous conversations
  • Six webinars: March 31, April 14, April 28, May 12, May 26 and June 9
    • Attend via online platform
    • Opportunity to deepen concepts learned in workshop
  • Six Triad discussions
    • Attend via online platform
    • Small group guided activities to support learning the skills
