Aug 18, 2016

17 teams. 4 days. 1 international Indigenous basketball tournament.

Last week, the first ever HaiCo World Indigenous Basketball Challenge took place at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby. This unique and culturally significant basketball tournament featured renowned indigenous basketball teams from around the world, including the national teams of Bermuda, Tonga, Zambia, South Sudan, and the Maori National Team.

viaSport Media had the opportunity to capture cultural performances from each of the teams in addition to their valiant matches during the event-filled weekend. Although each team gave it their all, the South Sudan National Team secured the championship title on the final day – congratulations South Sudan!

To date, the HaiCo World Indigenous Basketball Challenge has brought in more than 20,000 live and archived views from over 95 countries worldwide.
