B.C. sport organizations stand together to erase bullying in sport

News Release

In a province-wide call to action, provincial sport organizations are being asked to erase bullying in sport by making it a more inclusive and safe environment. viaSport and the Government of British Columbia are encouraging all provincial sport organizations to sign a Declaration of Commitment to erase bullying in sport throughout B.C. Those who sign the Declaration are committing to foster a positive sport environment with mechanisms in place to effectively prevent and address bullying in sport.

BC-based viaSport receives National Award for Excellence

B.C Paralympians Showcase Diversity in Sport

B.C. is sending 44 Paralympic athletes to Rio, 27% of the 162 athletes on Team Canada. These athletes vary from 16 to 59 years of age, hail from 20 geographic regions across the province and will be participating in 14 of the 23 Paralympic sporting events.  

B.C. boasts strong athlete contingent for Rio

There are 142 athletes, 45% of the national team, with a connection to B.C. on the Canadian Olympic team heading to Rio. This is the largest percentage of national team athletes with an affiliation to B.C. in recent history. To assist athletes in attaining their goals, B.C’s unique approach to sport development ensures young athletes and coaches from every corner of the province have the opportunity to achieve their best in sport.

14 BC Coaches selected for Mentorship Program at the 2016 BC Summer Games

Fourteen coaches from six BC communities have been chosen to participate in the BC Games Coach Mentorship Program as part of the Abbotsford 2016 BC Summer Games. A partnership initiative between viaSport and the BC Games Society, the mentorship program pairs apprentice and mentor coaches for unique hands-on experience and training at the Games.

Grants to help communities host sporting events

Communities throughout British Columbia will once again benefit from Provincial funding made available through the Hosting BC grant program. Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development Peter Fassbender, made the announcement today of $145,247 distributed to 20 communities for assistance in hosting 37 different sporting events.

#LevelTheField gender equity campaign wraps up in BC
