September 23 - 30, 2017 marks the third annual National Coaches Week and we’re asking Canadians everywhere for your help celebrating! Whether you are from a National Sport Organization, Provincial/Territorial Sport Organization, club, or you are a coach, parent, or athlete, we want your help saying ‘thanks!’ to coaches from coast to coast.

HOW DO I GET INVOLVED IN BC?

SURPRISE, COACH! CONTEST  


Submit a video (30 seconds or less) of your sport team, club or association that demonstrates how much you appreciate your coach.  

The winning entry will be awarded $750 towards team expenses ie. travel expenses, equipment, uniforms, team celebration, etc.
 

HOW DO I ENTER?

Post your video (less than 30 seconds) to Facebook or Instagram. Include:

  1. The name of the team or club
  2. What the money will be used for in the description/caption
  3. Why you appreciate your coach
  • Tag viaSport BC in the post
  • Include the hashtag #SurpriseBCcoach in the post
     

HOW DO I WIN?

  • Follow/like viaSport BC on Instagram and/or Facebook
  • Post your video using the hashtag #SurpriseBCcoach & tag viaSport BC
  • Each video will be evaluated on creativity, intention/impact (why you appreciate your coach) and fun [5 points each]
  • *Make your Facebook posts / Instagram profile public so that we can view your video

CONTEST DETAILS & FAQ


  • All entries must be posted between 4pm PT, August 24 2017 and 11:59pm PT, September 30 2017
  • By entering our contest, the entrant consents to the release of their video for promotional use by viaSport BC, and Provincial and Regional sport organizations. Entrants must own the rights to the video.
  • Sport teams/clubs/associations must be based in British Columbia
  • The winning video on behalf of the team/club/association will be contacted via Facebook or Instagram in the beginning of October
  • In order to receive payment, the winning entry must fill out an ‘Intention of Use Agreement’ form

Design a Basic Sport Program will teach you to:

  • create a sound outline for your sport program that includes competition and training events;
  • compare your program to those outlined by the NCCP in terms of long-term athlete development;
  • assess the athletic development opportunities your program offers, and identify ways to remedy any weaknesses;
  • interpret the information in a sample program, identifying training priorities and objectives at certain periods;
  • establish a link between your program’s training objectives and the content of practice sessions.

By successfully completing the Make Ethical Decisions workshop you will be fully equipped to handle virtually any ethical situation with confidence and surety.

MED is one of the NCCP’s cornerstone workshops, and leaves coaches with no doubt as to what to do when the going gets tough.

Mental Performance: Strategies in Coaching and Leadership

Nanaimo

Coaches recognize the importance to sport psychology in their role of helping athletes reach their potential in their sport. There are many mental factors that contribute towards an athletes’ performance. As such, it is vital that the mental and emotional needs of players are considered in coaching and leadership styles. This workshop will explore the different leadership styles coaches use, and provide education on the mental factors that influence player performance. The workshop will provide applicable strategies that coaches can use to facilitate the development of mental skills in their players.

Basic Mental Skills

The Basic Mental Skills module gives you the ability to:

  • recognize signs indicating that an athlete may need to improve his/her goal setting, focus, and anxiety control skills; and develop tools to help the athlete to make improvements in these areas;
  • run simple guided activities that help athletes improve basic mental skills.
